Balmex Diaper Rash
Balmex Diaper Rash Ointment
|
At some point, nearly every baby gets at least one diaper rash. Many unfortunate little ones experience repeated diaper rashes that can cause mild to extreme burning and discomfort. In infants, the outer layer of the skin is much thinner and more volatile than adults. When it is exposed to prolonged wetness or urine or feces, which raises the skins pH, this outer layer breaks down. Balmex diaper rash ointment helps to create a barrier that separates baby's soft skin from the harsh chemicals in urine and feces. The ointment serves as a preventative measure as well as a treatment. A new formula for Balmex diaper rash ointment is on the market which has been shown in clinical studies to reduce redness in one diaper change. This new Balmex diaper rash ointment also contains an exclusive combination of ingredients called "ActivGuard" which neutralizes the chemicals in urine and feces known to cause diaper rash and promote healing. Ingredients Although there are many "other" ingredients on the label of Balmex diaper rash ointment, the only active ingredient listed is zinc oxide (11.3%). However, most product descriptions also include reference to vitamins B5 and E which are supposed to be soothing to the skin. How to Use The recommended usage of Balmex diaper rash ointment is for both prevention and treatment. As a prevention, it helps to form a barrier between the skin and the wetness and irritants in the diaper. As a treatment, the zinc oxide along with the vitamins, help to sooth skin and reduce redness. In both prevention and treatment, the diaper area should be thoroughly cleaned and allowed to air dry. Caregivers should then apply the Balmex diaper rash ointment liberally after each diaper change. Diapers should be changed frequently and at the first sign that it is either wet or soiled. It is also especially important to use the Balmex diaper rash ointment any time the infant may be exposed to wetness for long periods of time, such as nap-time or bedtime. Warnings It should be fairly obvious that Balmex diaper rash ointment should not be used near the eyes, and that it is only for external use. However, a less obvious warning concerns prolonged use of the product for a single diaper rash. If the rash does not improve after one week of using the product or if the Balmex diaper rash worsens the condition, the caregiver should contact the child's doctor. Also, if a child should ingest the product, the Poison Control Center should be contacted immediately. Shingles | |
