We all love the precious little bottoms of newborns, infants, and toddlers. Unfortunately, those cute tiny tooshies sometimes get irritated by the chemicals in urine and feces that are eliminated into the diaper and then sit against their sensitive skin.

Fortunately, over the years, parents, guardians, and caregivers have conducted their own not-so-official research into which home remedies for diaper rash treatment provide the best relief. We have put together a list of many of them below.

1. Allow your baby to wear only her birthday suit for as long as possible. Airing out is often recommended as the best diaper rash treatment.

2. After thoroughly cleaning the diaper area, use liquid Malox instead of store brands of diaper rash treatment. It sounds odd, but this over-the-counter medicine is designed to reduce acid in the stomach. It works just as well to reduce the acid that ends up in the diapers.

3. Mix together Vaseline and cornstarch. This creates a barrier between the skin while neutralizing acids.

4. Simply switch to a wet, soft cloth instead of wet wipes which contain alcohol. The wet cloth will feel better to your baby as well as eliminate some of the harsh scrubbing that irritates the rash.

5. Brown regular flour in a pan and apply it to your baby's back side after it has dried from cleaning. This diaper rash treatment is said to work after using the flour for a day or so.

6. This home remedy is a preventative step rather than a diaper rash treatment. Apply virgin olive oil after diaper changes instead of store-bought creams and ointments.

7. At each diaper change, use running water to wash right over the baby's diaper area.

8. A very popular diaper rash treatment is to use a blow dryer set on the lowest setting to gently dry the diaper area. Be sure to move the hair dryer back and forth and check the temperature often. In addition to curing the diaper rash, many babies love this method!

9. Dip a cotton ball into whole milk and apply to a clean baby's bottom. Repeat 2 or 3 times before putting on a clean diaper.

Please remember that a diaper rash can be serious or be a sign of something else that is going on in your little one's body. If the diaper rash treatment is not successful after a week or if the rash becomes open sores or bleeds, contact your child's pediatrician.

Hopefully these diaper rash treatment suggestions will keep you using the coveted phrase, "Soft as a baby's behind."
